How do I look?

I have switched to the beta version of blogger.

Thanks to Mad Ethel and Gary for going before us and sacrificing themselves on the bleading edge as guinea pigs.

Is there a politically correct term for "guinea pig"? I really don't feel right about calling people pigs even though a guines pig is not really a pig according to this page. At least not in public.

Congratulate me on the purchase of the 10th anniversary special edition of Shawshank Redemption.

My next blog post will be about this movie, but it won't be so much a movie review but rather an essay about why this film deeply resonates with me and how the story has made its way to my heart even though I have never been to prison (despite my suspicious looks).

I hope you have seen this movie, and if not, please do it. As of now, the voting public of the Internet Movie Database ranks Shawshank as the second most highly regarded film ever, so please don't tell me you have not seen it or I will not party with you. Might as well tell the world of your state of shock and dismay ensuing the learning of the Lindbergh kidnapping.

Check out this clip I found on Youtube. It contains two deleted scenes which the DVD does not feature for some reason. I really like the second one. Found myself gasping for air along with Red.

Shawshank Redemption - great movie. My son and I watched it last weekend together (my second time). I anxiously await your upcoming post on it.

Well, I will make a point to Netflix it and watch it again. I've never been able to sit down and just watch it all the way through-- just bits and pieces.

This is an absolutely GREAT film. I watch it everytime it's on television. We also own it on DVD...but I think I want to get this special edition one.

That video was great. Neat scenes. The one of Red in the grocery store was very powerful.

Excellent movie. It's been my favourite ever since I saw it when I was about 14.

And how's the beta version of Blogger? I've been thinking about switching but just haven't done it yet...

I haven't been called a guinea pig in a long time. A pig, yes. Guinea pig, no.

Yeah, Shawshank is an awesome movie. I've seen it several times. Two great actors.

I checked the movie list to see what was number one. The Godfather, pretty good choice. I checked to see if Monty Python and the Holy Grail was on the list. Not that I think it's in the top ten or anything. But I do remember when it was first released on DVD, RollingStone called it "one of the six funniest movies ever made", wnich I thought was a great line in and of itself.

The list made me think, I wonder what movies I would choose as the top ten? Shawshank would be up there. hmmmm.

@Brian and Amber, thanks. Hopefully you will get to see it again.

@Mike - I resisted seeing it because of where it takes place - prison. Just did not seem interesting to me. You really have to see it from start to finish. Trust me. It will grow on you.

@Heather - The special edition has some interesting interviews with Robbins, Freeman and the director. You should get it.

Gig, my goodness. I cannot believe you admitted to not having seen it. There are no snakes in the movie. Will that motivate you?

Gary, God Father outranks it, but if you look closer, it received the most votes on the list. That ought to be weighed in, I think. So to me, it should be ranked #1 with popularity taken into account.

Ah God Father... I saw the first 20 minutes when I was about 22, and stopped it. It was just too slow. Maybe some day, I will sit through.

This is a dead of the night Batman blogger fly by

Great movie. I remember how when it first came out I asked my girlfriend at the time if she wanted to see it she said "no I don't want to see no prison movie." Then when it came on video I just rented it on my own and then she got mad that I watched it without her because she really wanted to see it. So I got hit with a delayed triple negative. Thus proving that a dog really is a man's best friend.

It's one of the few Stephen King stories that translated well to film. I love both the novella and the movie.

You probably know that "Different Seasons" also contained his novella The Body which became Stand by Me. It worked as a movie too.

I can't wait to see what you write about it, I loved that movie. Do you use Netflix? If so can I add you as a friend? Gary's my friend on there and I love his taste in movies.
