Thanks for the link David. I went to listen to it on rhapsody before, but I didn't want to register. It wasn't what I expected. I think I was expecting something more angry sounding.
He has many songs with angry lyrics but not many with angry music. Malvina's recording sounds a little angrier I think.
I have a theory about that of course just as I have a theory about everything.
When Pete (and Woody, etc.) started out, they wanted people to listen. To do that, they kept the music simple and rather bouncy. What people can whistle, they remember.
Critics may call it trite and simplistic with its three chords and repititive melody but it energized their generation, mine, and several to follow.
His music draws me in precisely because his songs are easy to listen to and make me think. I still have a lot of conservative leanings, and that says a lot about his style.
Angry music only speaks to the choir, which is fine if that is the intention of the artist, but it won't work if you want to reach those sitting on the fense.

Long live Pete.
repetitive - too many vowels in that word.
